SAR 900 902 / Port Pirie
SAR #902 - SAR Shops/EE ML-DEL B/n /1849 B/d 4/52 - 1600 mm gauge. Photographed at Port Pirie, South Australia. SAR transferred to ANR, locomotives withdrawn. Locomotives built in Australia and were patterned on the Alco PA-series, but with EMD E-unit trucks and using diesel engine and electrical equipment from English Electric of Great Britain.
Broken Hill August 1991
Three generations of standard gauge motive power at Broken Hill in New South Wales. Technically outside of South Australia it was the handover point for NSW motive power. 607 was an Alco product built in 1965, AL25 an EMD product dating from 1977, while GE product EL58 was less than a year old.
Wagging time off work
Another memory from a nice little early morning chase back in August 1987. I think my employer was very understanding, and coming in a couple of hours late was OK so long as I let them know and made the time up asap. Australian National's broad gauge ALCo DL531 branchliner no.836 still carries its former South Australian Railway 'mustard pot' livery as it heads a rake of empty OBs near Reedy Creek on the Monarto South to Apamurra branch - 12 August 1987.
