Impatiens is a genus of about 850 to 1,000 species of flowering plants, widely distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere and the tropics. Together with the genus Hydrocera, Impatiens make up the family Balsaminaceae. Common names include impatiens, jewel weed, touch-me-not, snap weed, patience & in the UK, busy lizzie's. Some species are annual plants and produce flowers from early summer until the first frost, while perennial species, found in milder climates, can flower all year.
