12 Reasons: Volunteering and Leadership
All about why you should get involved in Girl Guides Australia!
What is that Girl Guides does that no one else does? What makes our 'Stop the Violence' campaign unique? It's the fact 'Voices against Violence' is the first of its kind in the world. We're putting a stop to domestic violence by putting girls and young women in the lead.
We believe strongly that Australian girls are best served by a program designed specifically for Guides, and facilitated by women. In Guiding, girls and young women do not feel the pressure to look to males for decision-making. Women and girls take positions of leadership, use their talents and abilities in planning and policy-making, and are encouraged to take these skills into their lives.
The annual biscuit drive is the primary fundraising activity of the Girl Guiding movement. On average, Guides sell 550,000 packets of biscuits to the community, with the money raised going towards activities and events, the purchase of supplies, and supporting disadvantaged girls in the program. But did you know selling biscuits provides an opportunity for Guides to have direct and personal connection with the community and learn a variety of valuable skills?
Like many youth organisations, Girl Guides uses non-formal education methods designed with the aim of instilling confidence in girls and young women so they can reach their fullest potential. It is a unique values-based leadership program with an outdoors focus, so Guides learn the life skills that matter: character, creativity, citizenship, communication, collaboration and commitment.
Girl Guides Australia takes pride in the fact that we are a volunteer organisation. Our volunteers offer a unique set of knowledge and skills that girls and young women look up to and value. Volunteering with us is fun and makes a tangible difference to your community and the lives of girls and women #womenvolunteers
