Choosing to forgive our abuser/offender does not invalidate what we suffered or excuse them. Rather it releases us from the bondage and slavery to that person as we place them in God's hands to deal with. Unwillingness to forgive only increases our own chains and slavery to our abuser.

Jesus chose to die in our stead while choosing to forgive us. He is most qualified to assist us in our journey to freedom from the slavery of unforgiveness.
