Your story IS unique, and you ARE deserving of a loyal readership. You just have to do your best work, believe in yourself, develop your craft, and find the right people who are going to love your stories. If there's an indoor setting in your novel that your characters are often in, such as their house, it's important for readers to be able to picture where things are. This helps the realism of the novel. Setting can also be used to create empathy, based on how the characters interact with it! It's much better to show the reader the layout of a space through action or emotion, rather than give them a step-by-step floor plan... There are so many aspects to good world building in fiction, and adding specific types of terrain and climate is a great boost for realism and atmosphere. What's the weather like? Windy and dry, rainy and humid? Are we in a desert, jungle, forest, a tropical beach? These additions make your reader feel more immersed in your story, and allow you to show more than just tell. It also helps you distinguish different areas, like countries and kingdoms, in your fictional world.

As I discussed in this week's blog post, young adult/teen fiction has to balance on a delicate line between being relatable to current young people and not alienating future audiences.
