Mary Wigman (Marie Wiegmann) was born in Germany on November 13,1886, and she died on September 18,1973. She pioneered Expressionist dance, choreography, dance therapy and movement training. She is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of modern dance. She became an iconic figures in the Weimar German culture and her work was hailed for bringing the deepest of existential experiences to the stage.
