My name is Tanmayo. I am an abstract painter who lives on the Sunshine Coast eastern coast of Australia. I primarily use acrylics but also experiment with watercolour and mixed media. I treat the surface of the picture in a reductive painterly way and I tantalize with a seductive colour vocabulary. The edges of the canvas are integrated into the motifs. I disturb the balance of the colours by frequently painting over the picture which increases their intensity.

“Vast” (Mixed Media) Size: 120x90cm “Vast” is the complete opposite to my last week’s post which was purely abstract with no perspective at all. This painting is of Mooloolaba Beach on the Sunshine Coast, Australia near where I live. It is an exercise in perspective and the composition was carefully planned before painting. However you will note that the surf in the mid-ground is dribbled across the canvas to flatten out the painting and to keep it from getting too geometrical.

“Prayer” - 75x95cm (framed) Collage with Gold Leaf The composition is made from different types of paper. Some are synthetic papers. Others are handmade by me by rendering plant vegetation. The point of focus is a Buddhist Prayer Paper. Also the balance between the different types of products (synthetic, manufactured and natural) suggests that technology can coexist in harmony with the natural and the spiritual.

Title:	“Grok” (Acrylic) 90x90cm The word “Grok” is new. It was invented by the author Robert Heinlein. It means to intimately and completely share the same reality or line of thinking with another physical or conceptual entity. According to Wikipedia grokking is the intermingling of intelligence that necessarily affects the observer and the observed. This painting is about networks and networking and its social affects.

"Transience" This painting was a Finalist in the Kenilworth Art Awards 2009. (Acrylic) 100x100cm It is one of a series of paintings called SATSANG. If you get the feeling of emptiness, then the painting is having the desired effect – it is a meditation. It represents the NOW – the past and future does not exist. If thoughts come, then the conscious observation of those thoughts as they drift in and out of consciousness is enough. The content of those thoughts is irrelevant.
