October garden

We only went away for the weekend and I came home to new colour in the garden. It popped up with the sunny days. What a greeting when I came home. I love it.

Garden inspiration

After going to look at open gardens I came home and had the urge to put rusty junk in my garden. To paint old chairs, do some rearranging and making. Here's some of what I've been up to and what's flowering. Sorry in advance for the photo overload. Sweet peas will be flowering soon. I rescued the 'speak no evil' frogs that had been buried under weeds for ages and plonked them behind the cubby house were not much grows. There is a pond near here, so they fit in. This used to be our fruit…

A garden weekend away

Mum, the girls and I, spent a blissful weekend away looking at open gardens around Strathalbyn, in the Adelaide hills. So much inspiration. I've been gardening for the last two days! Can not wait to do it again. These first four are of the Murray River at Tailem Bend. I took these in the morning. These views were from our cabin, number six, at the Rivers Edge Caravan Park.

Veggie patch envy

There may have been some confusion yesterday when I posted pictures of that beautiful veggie patch. I had a feeling that some may have thought it was ours, but alas, I too have garden envy. That veggie patch is out on my brother in laws farm, he and his wife have gone travelling around Australia for most of this year. Their daughter(my niece) and her fiance are living there at the moment, we were feeding the chooks, the dog and her cat while they too had gone away for several days. We were…

Santolina - The olive herb

I found this little beauty a few weeks ago; I'd never heard of it before this herb caught my eye at Plants Plus. After I crushed the leaves between my fingers and had a whiff, I had to have it. It's Santolina rosmarinifolia, the olive herb. It really smells and has the flavour of olives. I made foccacia last week and used this chopped up on top before I baked it. I chopped it up with parsley and basil mint and put it in the pasta sauce on Tuesday. It would probably be awesome in a salad…

Rose gone wild

This started out as a 5ft standard weeping Renae rose, and it would have been gorgeous in itself. The root stock(the tall stick part that the Renae rose would have been grafted on to) has taken over. This happens when the rose has been damaged below the point of the graft. It is still pretty magnificent and it's Boggys(hubby) favourite. The root stock rose that has taken over is the climbing 'Blackboy'. The Renae rose still makes an appearance The climbing 'Gold Bunny' has been damaged too…
