Anti-Diet

Health behaviours and weight loss have been so tied together that when we hear someone say 'I'm against intentional weight loss, or I'm anti-diet' a huge black and white assumption is made that it also means we're against 'health' - I say health this way because it's a subjective term and always changing. You cannot tell what health behaviours someone is/isn't doing based on their body size. Weight change or body changes happen for many individual reasons. . Being anti-diet, non-diet or rejecting diet culture sometimes gets interpreted as a 'reverse diet', where food declared 'bad' by diet culture is placed on a pedestal, and foods seen as 'good' by diet culture are tossed out. When people 'give up diets' - it means they are leaving a prescriptive, rule-bound way of eating for a way of eating that is flexible and individual e.g. intuitive eating. All foods are welcome in this approach. #antidiet #bodyimage Diet Culture, Intuitive Eating, Tossed, Diets, Pedestal, Approach, Reverse
