Buche Noel. A flourless French Christmas log, with lots of chocolate cream. It is not easy to make and took me three tries at getting it somewhat right. It is a Lebanese favourite from the French influence way back. The mushrooms are actual mushrooms painted with food colouring.
'Whared el Shem', (Rose of Damascus, in Arabic) Lebanese pastry sweets, filled with clotted cream which in Arabic is called Ashta. The cream is flavoured with rose water. These pastries look very delicate.
SESSAME SATE This is a great alternative for people who have a peanut allergy or just would like a different nutty taste. It is very simple to make. You can use your own sate recipe or my recipe. The secret is to substitute sesame paste (tahini) for the peanut paste. See my blog for my recipe. http://www.girafix.net/apps/blog
FIELD MUSHROOMS Field Mushrooms are out and at a good price at my local green grocer. These treats are so simple to make, grate your favourite cheese, I use parmesan and cheddar, with finely chopped parsley, shallots and cracked pepper. Pop the mix on top and lightly grill. Very delicious and great with a glass of cold sharp Semillon Sauvignon Blanc.
