The price of WW1 to Australia and New Zealand was beyond measure. Every small town across both nations has a memorial listing those who followed the call but never returned from Gallipoli, or France, or Palestine. In Melbourne, the memorial is called The Shrine and it is indeed sacred to all those who lie in foreign fields and are honored on the 25th of April each year - ANZAC Day - which commemorates the date of the first landings at Gallipoli
