Swanston and Collins St 1959.  Buildings to the south opposite the Town Hall (left) were demolished for the City Square from 1966 onwards.  The Regent Theatre in Collins St. (not shown) was also intended to be demolished but was saved by a union ban. By 1968 a temporary square was installed.  On the right at the Capitol Cinema Sidney Poitier was starring in what seems to be ' The Defiant Ones.' Excellent details in pic if double clicked
