I just used this "magic trick" to bring my kids into Lent.  Talk about Lent as you do the folds.  The part torn off is the bad things we get rid of during Lent.  Throw it away.  What is left is our ticket into Heaven- as we open our folded paper and find it has turned into a cross. Worth a try!
