Wednesday night we did a ghost tour of Mayday Hills Asylum. It certainly was an adventure and I got some interesting shots with this being one of them. I went without a tripod because it would have been too much trouble to set up each time but next time I'll take my second camera and the tripod and do some timelapses around the place. (I kinda wanna play Penumbra: Black Plague again..)

Here's a shot from the Empire State showing Madison Square Garden up to the Hudson River. The Empire State observation deck was MUCH windier than the Rockefeller due to there only being large metal criss-cross grills to keep out the elements unlike the Rock's perspex or glass windows. This worked out well because it let me poke my camera out further allowing me to get better shots without having to watch for reflections or trying to hold my camera steady between two window panes.

Yesterday I took my first ever helicopter ride. The weather was perfect and the views were amazing! I should try and get in the air more often..

Le Bal des Luminéoles was one of two installations at White Night. Combining lights and kites the installations floated in the air and looked simply amazing. This one was taken shortly before dawn down on Southbank and was the last item on my to-see list.

While walking to the Empire State building we came across this set of lights on the side of a building. If I may quote Forrest Gump: "And that's all I have to say about that"

My one regret when visiting New York is that I didn't take enough time to just stroll the streets take the side roads and enjoy the smaller details. In our defense it was cold everything was big and shiny and we had a lot of "touristy" things that I'd kick myself if we didn't do. Maybe we'll return again and I'll spend more time in the other boroughs. But until that time enjoy this shot from the Brooklyn Bridge.

Here's a quick shot from tonight's Super Blue Blood Moon. If you're still awake and can't get outside to see the show NASA is live streaming it over on YouTube and is definitely worth the watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwMDvPCGeE0 To get this shot I dug out my 70-300mm zoom lens which jams up whenever the aperture is anything other than wide open. That makes it useless during the day but perfect at night. I also ramped up the ISO so I could get a steadier shot then sharpened it and…

A large part of our second day in New York was spent uptown. We went to the Museum of Modern Art for a few hours and I snapped this shot on the second floor. The whole museum was amazing and I wish we could have spent more time there because there was so much to take in.

Part of the fun of exploring a city is wandering away from the tourist-y areas and finding new things. This shot was taken as we were leaving the mall adjacent to the World Trade Centre. Unless you looked up you'd miss it. Certainly not what you expect when you say you went to the 9/11 memorial.
