Not everyone has room for an outdoor kitchen in their patio space, so for small areas, keep the design simple to prevent clutter. What do you think about this modern patio space?

Contemporary patio by Laara Copley-Smith Garden & Landscape Design. Zen retreat. A planter of bamboo and a petite Japanese maple, along with a simple wood-slat trellis and minimalist furniture, create a peaceful space in which to unwind. A palette of white, natural wood, stone and lush greenery helps boost feelings of relaxation. Choose smooth river stones as mulch, and just one meaningful sculpture or icon.

I REALLY like this rounded bowl fire pit look

I like the fire pit! I think it makes outdoor space more usable at nightfire pit + simple modern pits are awesome unless it's in a windy area. Smoke in your face is a no go!

Staghorn Fern (Platycrrium Superbum)

Staghorn Fern (Platycerium superbum) These are protected. They grow in lowland rain forests in Queensland and Northern NSW.

Ozone, in Australia, built by Swell Homes.

Garden bench built into rendered retaining wall. I like the way trees are also in the planter to create two layers, plus a narrow planting at foot of retaining wall and under garden seat. - Gardening And Patio

lush plantings and powerful architectural details create impact in a serene place. Not everyone has the budget for beautiful stone and masonry walls, but anyone can start with small plants that will get large and that help manage the space (that is, outcompete the weeds). Seating can be defined with gravel until it can be updated to a possibly more desirable paving material.
