Impromptu Autumn Wedding
Some people plan their weddings months, even years in advance. This autumn I did some flowers for a wedding planned in only a few weeks. It was a small flower order with just a bouquet for the bride and a boutonniere for the groom, but it an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. My inspiration came from seasonal colours. I love the pink of the peppercorns in autumn. They are like little pink pearls and I love the way they fall softly. The leaves are lovely too. The Sugarbush or Protea Repens…

Soft Pinks and Greens for a January Wedding
January Wedding Bouquet Soft pinks and mint greens were the colours for this January wedding. The bride loved eucalyptus and gum nuts and wanted something soft to compliment the bridesmaid's dresses in mint. January was challenging this year with warmer than average temperatures and much lower rainfall than usual. It meant that there was some unusual timing with some of the blooms, but we managed to come up with some pretty colours and textures to suit the theme. White Ice Proteas flowering…
Thinking About Weddings - Boutonniere
Boutonniere is a french word meaning 'button hole' and is the name for a flower or small bouquet worn on the lapel of a man's jacket. Boutonniere have an interesting history, with some suggesting the practice started with flowers being worn by men going into battle. The boutonniere was very popular in Victorian times. In Bloom: Wax Flower - nouba.com.au
We all love an underdog success story and in the world of floristry, the humble wax flower is a perfect example of filler-turned-killer. These perfectly pert little beauties will oft been seen playing a supporting role to grander blooms, but I think they’re just delightful in their own right.
Colourful Summer Backyard Wedding
This January it was my pleasure to create some flowers for a simple backyard wedding in Hobart. The weather was warm and the yard had been planted out with lots of colour to create a gorgeous environment for the ceremony. "Rich native colours" was the request, so I knew I'd be using the Safari Sunset Leucadendrons in the mix. Their rich burgundy colour in summer is always a great addition to a bouquet. The focal flowers were rich pink-red Protea Compacta and apricot-orange Leucospermum…
