WWI - Lest we forget: Remember WWI pays tribute to the women on the home front who served on the land and in hospitals, as well as the servicemen .

John "Jack" Simpson Kirkpatrick (centre of picture) who served under the name John Simpson, was a stretcher bearer with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during the Gallipoli Campaign. After landing at Anzac Cove on 25 April 1915, he obtained a donkey and began carrying wounded  soldiers from the frontline to the beach, for evacuation. He did this for three and a half weeks, often under fire, until he was killed. Simpson and his Donkey are a key part of the "Anzac legend".

Corporal Benjamin Roberts-Smith VC, awarded the Victoria Cross, Australia's highest military honour, for his service in Afghanistan. On 11 June 2010, as part of a Special Operations Task Group, Cpl Roberts-Smith exposed his own position to draw fire away from his patrol, storming the enemy position, allowing his patrol to lift the weight of fire from other Australian troops.
