The South African Necklace and Bracelet, the Queen's 21st birthday gift from South Africa was a long diamond necklace which she later changed to this necklace and bracelet. Her "best diamonds", as she's said to call them.

In the summer of 1963, a 198.28-carat fancy brown diamond was found in the South African diamond fields. This unusual stone was purchased by Julius Cohen

The Great Chrysanthemum is a 104 carat orange-brown diamond, cut from a fancy brown diamond found in the South African diamond fields. It is mounted as the central stone in a yellow gold necklace of 410 oval and marquise-shaped diamonds.

The Dutch sapphire tiara. It includes 655 South African diamonds, now set in platinum. The 33 sapphires are nestled at the bottom of the diadem. Adding to the sparkle factor, some of the stones are en tremblant – meaning set on springs, so that they move with the wearer and create the maximum amount of reflection.  The tiara was purchased in 1881 by King Willem III of the Netherlands for his wife, Queen Emma.

'The South African Diamonds' - originally set in a long necklace, was shortened in 1952. Queen Elizabeth shortened the necklace from 21 to 15 large diamonds and created a bracelet with the remainders. To the bracelet, she added another treasure from the 1947 tour: a 6 carat diamond given to her by De Beers. Little Mary Oppenheimer presented the De Beers diamond to Princess Elizabeth (Princess Margaret got one too).

1881 by Mellerio (designed in 1867 by Oscar Masin).  Some of the stones are set en temblant and the center is a brooch that once belonged to Queen Anna of the Netherlands.  In 1928, the original gold frame was replaced with platinum by Van Kempen en Vos. 31 Kashmir sapphires and 655 brilliant cut, South African diamonds.  The tiara's alternate setting of diamond spikes was worn by Mabel Wisse Smit when she married Queen Beatrix’s son Prince Friso in 2004.  Also worn by Princess Maxima (R).

In 1947, Princess Elizabeth turned 21 years old while in South Africa. The country of Rhodesia gifted her a diamond flame lily brooch. In South Africa, they gave her a very  impressive diamond necklace, with 21 large diamonds, the largest of which was 10 carats. The larger diamonds were separated by groups of a baguette diamond to form a long necklace. From that day on, she has referred to the South African set as "my best diamonds".
