14 Feb The great German battleship BISMARCK is launched, the most powerful ship in the Kriegsmarine. Its career on the seas, however, will be cut short by the British.

KSM Bismarck  - Bismarck-class battleship	41,700 tons - 24 August 1940 - sunk 27 May 1941. In this caption shortly before the ill fated Operation Rhine, May 1941, showing the great beam of the ship.  On the 24th she sank the famous British battlecruiser HMS Hood; on the 27th she went to the bottom of the Atlantic.

Napoleon III (France) and Otto von Bismarck (Germany) -- Enemies against one another in a war caused by newspapers. Spain was wanting to seat a Prussian as an emperor, and being that France hated Spain and Prussia, they wanted to do all they could to prevent that from taking place. After two meetings of Prussian deception, newspapers in Prussia released headlines along the lines of taunting the French; they responded by declaring war on Prussia/Germany.
