McEwan began his career writing sparse, Gothic short stories. I saw the movie first, which is unusual for me. However, the movie was so good IMO, that I had to read the book. This book is also listed in the book "1000 Books you Should Read Before you Die"  - thus it must be good! In may move into my favorites list....  Atonement...amazing book and movie.
