Dig! Ondi Timoner’s wildly entertaining documentary tells a familiar rock n’ roll tale, one filled with crazy nights, substance abuse, out-of-control parties, temper tantrums, art-versus-commerce debates, musical differences, onstage fights, and smashed sitars. What makes DIG! so electrifying is that you see it all unfold in front of the cameras, as Timoner follows the highs and lows of two bands – the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols – over the course of seven years.

Ondi Timoner film made Brian Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe an instant batshit rock and roll legend and painted The Dandy Warhols as a Pollyanna-ish pack of kids in over their heads.

IDBm reviews and ratings for 'Dig!' (2004), a documentary about 2 rock bands: exalted genius Anton Newcombe's Brian Jonestown Massacre (incapable of integrating with the real world) and the Dandy Warhols (able to integrate their talents -even if distilled from that of Newcombe- with common sense and market, and hence remaining accessible and 'cool'). What makes it special is the examination of the complex contrasting personalities and the ironies of success and failure. Source: Chris Docker…

DIG!: It's hard to watch Dig! and not feel some affection for the hip and guileless characters that populate its chaotic world. But beneath the warmth of Ondi Timoner's documentary--an insider's view of seven years in the company of Californian alt-rockers The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre--are archetypal themes of friendship and ambition that place Dig! near the top of the pantheon of great music documentaries.

The documentary on the Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown massacre is not to be missed. A must for any music fan.

This year being the 34th anniversary of the tragedy at Jonestown, I saw this pop up on tv. Overall a great documentary with many interviews from the few survivors and those who managed to escape. Very sad stuff.
