Researchers at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor have identified a potential new approach to fertility preservation for young cancer patients in a study published Dec. 3 in the Nature journal Scientific Reports.
This image shows the histology of ovarian follicles. Examples of primordial and primary follicles are labeled. One to three primordial follicles are developed into primary follicles each monthly uterine cycle. Over about forty years of menstruation, about 500 primordial follicles are developed into primary follicles. This is much less than the 400,000 eggs females have available over their lifetime.
FSH targets inner granulosa cells of ovarian follicle; LH targets outern theca cells of ovarian follicle; granulosa cells secretes Estrogen to certain body part growth including endometrium; Theca cells and Corpus Luteum secretes Progesterone to sustain Endometrium in its secretory and more fertile phase, it inibits secretion of FSH and LH
