Venus is visible above Earth's moon, which is illuminated solely by light reflected from Earth. Because of Venus's nearness to Earth and the way its clouds reflect sunlight, it appears to be the brightest planet in the night sky.

On May 14, 2014, just after sunset, nearly all of the naked-eye planets and the moon will be visible, strung out across the southern sky. From west to east, these are Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and the moon.

If you go out tonight (May about half an hour after sunset and have clear weather, you will see a number of bright objects in the sky. The brightest of these celestial lights are four of five planets visible to the naked eye this month.

There will be four Blood Moons in the next two years. The first will be the visible in the early morning of April 15 at about 3 am in the USA. Check local times.
