I agree, 4 bottoms, 4 tops, one sweater, enough underwear and socks to last you for a week and sleeping gear. Wear your one pair of shoes (or pack one more if preferred) Also a travelling clothesline (get from camping shops), a bar of laundry soap & handwash every night. My vote would be for rolling luggage and a small backpack for the plane & day trips.

18. REI Clothesline. If you’re packing more than a week’s worth of clothing at a time, you’re going to need to worry about laundry at some point. When you’re traveling on a budget and you’re in a foreign country, sometimes the easiest, least-hassle option is just to hand-wash in the sink of your hotel room (and if you’re doing any kind of camping, it’s your only option!). $7 at REI.
