What's that Skip? A plate, figs and bread

I was wandering around Chapel Street Bazaar yesterday afternoon when this caught my eye: A SKIPPY PLATE! My brother and I had these exact melamine plates with Sonny and Skippy the Bush Kangaroo on them when we were young uns. I'm not sure what happened to them, but I'd long forgotten about them. There were two plates at the bazaar, in pretty good condition considering they're more than 30 years old. Yes, I bought one. According to the Skippy Wiki (hehe), Skippy was banned in Sweden because…

The six self-governing Australian colonies that formed the Commonwealth of Australia on 1 January 1901 operated their own postal service and issued own stamps – see articles on the systems on New South Wales (first stamps issued 1850), Victoria (1850), Tasmania (1853), Western Australia (1854), South Australia (1855) and Queensland (1860).

War is hell. It's especially hellish when the entire world is involved in a conflict that boils down to complicated alliances and diplomatic ass-hattery. So every little happy piece of home helps.

Vintage Military Cap Badge Australian Kangaroo by CalloohCallay, Pre-WWI Collectibles

Your place to buy and sell all things handmade

This wonderful vintage / antique military cap badge features a kangaroo hopping in front of a rising sun. It's marked Australasian across the bottom and I believe was used by a pre-World War I (Boer War) squadron of Australians and New Zealanders. This is a rare military badge (and I've seen conflicting information on its origin). The badge has wonderful details, with all sorts of plants surrounding the kangaroo. On the back it has two copper loops for attaching to a beret or slouch hat. I…
