The 9/11 Teardrop Memorial

I had no clue about this impressive and poignant 9/11 memorial until I received information and photos about it in a recent email. Known as the Teardrop Memorial, it was a gift to America from the country of Russia and is dedicated "To the Struggle Against World Terrorism." The Waldorf Astoria Hotel - The original Waldorf Hotel was where the Empire State Building stands today. John Jacob Astor's home next door became the Astoria hotel in when the two properties joined forces. The Original Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, now the site of The Empire State Building, started as two hotels, the 13-story Waldorf Hotel was opened in 1893 and the other, the Astoria Hotel was opened four years later in 1897, and was four stories higher.

Times Square 1978. In 78 my high school newspaper staff went NYC for the annual national awards. We didn't win 1st. But we went here, saw plays on Broadway and ate at Mama Leoni's.
