Working with different textures I found that this layer was bit to grungy and also i would like to distort the face even more. Additionally i feel that the effect and the image are disconnected again, not creating a powerful effect in my opinion, i think it is as the effect layer is not as sharp as it could be. However looking at Wet plate edits the photographers aren't afraid to show their workings on their image. i want to do the same but in a modern context as i used photoshop not…
After discussing in class of the symbolism of the 'black dog' reflecting depression, i want to play on this concept, if I show a black dog in my series it will raise questions and also will subtilely provide an answer. her a broken flower lays next to a black dog's paw suggesting the depressions has broken the beauty,, i think this direction go thought, however i want to change the death of find within my series and so far it has all been on the same level.
Im really down to this image as the grunge aesthetic has provided a dirty, rough and aggressive. this aggressive aspect to the image was created through the camera positioning as it feels that the ground is flipping on the actor through the non- straight horizontal lines. Im drawn to this un easiness, I would like to explore this in my future works.
Final- The black dog. i didn't want to take a expected image of a black dog and as well i wanted to change the distance through my sires to create an interesting flow through my sires. I aimed to set up a abstract image of the black dog, forceing my viewer to think further into my image and additionally, inviting my audience to question my images as i aim to make my viewers ask questions about my subject matter of depression and create discussion about this killer hiding in the shadows
Final- Aimming to make every image different from the next but keeping the images in a cohesive series. matched the coloring of the texture layer to the others and match to the skin tones to the other image. I wanted to distort the face significantly to keep a mystery flowing through the work but also to not have an image that my viewers can identify the modal, I want the audience to put themselves in this surrounds of darkness, this will create a emotional connection
Final- One of my main ideas was to have a big focus on having my written statement connected to my work, as through the word I wrote where are artwork with in the series. For this to happen I wanted to draw the audience into the symbolism of the leaves with in my written statement I hinted at the significants but still kept it open. Frozen in time, dying, the leaves will never see the love of spring, they are dying so is the mans soul, his frozen in the dark.
Final- For me I see clouds to be a symbolism of freedom, purity and peace, however i wanted to surround this freedom and positivity with darkness to symbols the dark perception of the man who is suffering with depression. I aim for this darkness and suffocation to be exported to the viewers outlook on my work, i want to position my viewers with the same perspective as one with depression
Final- after editing this image i wanted it to fit better with in a cohesive sires with the other images, so i adopted a more soft texture to the image and creating my own feel and effect to photo. i wanted to two layers to feel connected and i think i have achieved this through the positioning and the effect and the coloring of both the edited layer and the skin tones, it is both dramatic and dark but beautiful at the same time.
I see there is such beauty, optimism and freedom with in clouds, i wonted to surround this purity with the darkness and suffocate it with the wet plate edit, adding further meaning with in my story that the images are telling. with this edit I found that is was to hard and cold not smooth and warm as my other edits, as well the colours where different to the other final images, i want to make each image work cohesivly together but without copping each other, this would make or brake the…
After reflecting i saw this effect i created to much of like an Instagram filter that has been seem to many times before. The film effect and the image feel to be disjointed, this keeps drawing my eye, not the subject or the meaning of the images but the disconnection with in the image, as a result this is an unsuccessful image in my view. Additionally I find that this image would not contribute to the overall story being told through the sires.
As i want to introduce symbols into my sires, i tried the wet plate effect on a feather, I felt that i couldn't get the result that i was looking for. on reflection I think i had a texture that was to hard and cold compared to my other edits that are smooth and warm. Secondly, A wet plate effect is random and I tried to create a random effect but the feather become lost with in the edit and i feel that the viewers eye was not being directed to where I wanted it to be.
Im happy how the effect layer works with in this image. the effect has created the illusion that the subjects face has been rubbed out with steel wool adding to the mood and feelings of uncanny, uncomfortable and suffocating. Here the effects layer has worked cohesively with the image, that will have to be my biggest focus with creating a successful body of work.
As now I'm introducing an effect onto of my images, i have to make the effect unique to my style to ensure that people don't get bored with a commonly used effect. additionally i have to change the wet plate effect from one image to the next so there is no repetition of the same throughout my series as seen in Antonio Palmerini's work, all images work together but are unique
Looking at Sally Mann's series "what remains" i found myself being drawn to the beauty and uniqueness of the wet plate process and the effects that they mad. i want to try and create a wet plate/ tin type effect on my images through photoshop, as i see that the processing layers build drama with in the image andean work well with the subject as seen in Antonio Palmerini's work
Im drawn to the way use of light has highlighted only part of the subject, this has made feel as though the animal is emerging from the shadows, as though he is hiding. this use of shadows and highlights have really emphasized a deeper meaning, as i would like to make the comment of depression not really being talked about in our communities, leaving this mental illness be a silent killer, sighing in the dark.
Again here looking at the way extreme shadows and highlights have created a very dramatic effect that isolates the subject. Im not intending to use a dog in my actual imagery, I would like to carry this same stile over onto a human figure who can perform the set mood i'm intending for. I also enjoyed the abstract aspect of the images, i will like to explore this further.
