Sutro Baths, San Francisco, 1896-1966: one had a choice of 7 pools, 1 fresh & 6 salt water, a museum of Sutro’s collection of artifacts from his travels, a concert hall, & an ice skating rink. During high tides, water would flow directly into the pools from the ocean. A fire destroyed the building while it was in the process of being demolished. The remains- concrete walls, blocked stairs & passages & a tunnel-are open, but a sign warns, "People have been swept from the rocks and drowned."
