I Spy.....

I Spy with my little eye...... A chicken, a cow, a goldfish. Cakes. Mmmmm. A dog, a bone, paw prints. A cat, a penguin, a bird house. A boy. Almost there with the quilting. Just the borders to do now. All these things came from my stash. Surprising what is in there when you dig deep. I have had great fun finding fabrics to use and Maisie has tested it out by finding her own things. She spotted a owl and a bike and a baa. She identifies animals mostly by the noise they make although a cow is…

Disappearing Nine-Patch: I-Spy Version

Here's how to make an I-Spy version of the Disappearing Nine-Patch. It's SO EASY, but it looks like you spent FOREVER on it! I am assuming throughout this tutorial that you are familiar with the Disappearing Nine-Patch pattern -- I have previously posted specific step-by-step instructions on that quilt pattern, which you can find here. What you need: ~ 88 - 4" I-Spy squares (From time to time I host swaps where you can join in and trade with others to collect these!) ~ 1 1/8 yd fabric for…

I-Spy Kit Shop Update | Diary of a Quilter - a quilt blog

I just listed a few I-spy kit options in my Etsy Shop – including a new pattern. (I know. It’s been a long time in the coming.) There are a few options to choose from including the original listing of 45 different 3 ½” squares for $12.95. These squares are great for a children’s quilt – I’ve also been using them for my hexies. There is a new addition this time: packs of 61 different 3 ½” squares for $18.95 This is the number needed to make the quilt pictured above. A copy of the PDF pattern…

I-Spy Quilts for My Boys!

About two weeks ago myboys and I went through my extensive I-Spy square collection so they could pick out squares they wanted for quilts of their own. (They have had the same quilts on their beds since they were babies. Definitely time for something new!) They had a FANTASTIC time going through and picking out things they liked -- and of course it was super fun for me too! They picked out the fabrics for the sashing squares and borders. They each also picked the fabric they wanted for the…

Have been putting off sewing this together for quite some time. Recently saw this quilt: http://www.flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/ at Flourishing Palm. Had seen many versions of an I-Spy from just sewing blocks together with plain binding to having each block separated with sashing (NOT happening here!!!) and all sorts of things in between. When I saw Linda's, it seemed like a perfect design for me--not so fussy and allowing for a lot of blocks. Mine is still a bit different than hers and…

I Spy Quilt

I don't think I've ever blogged about this small quilt. Amazing, I know; I blog about everything! Two summers ago, I purchased some I Spy squares, they were pretty large about 6.5 inches. I used some of them to make a I Spy Quilt for Kimberly's baby, and the rest for this quilt. I think it's more "Boy" oriented, so I had the long arm quilter use a sports ball theme. Here's the back, and another photo of the sports ball quilting. The quilt is small, about 36" square. May your bobbins always…
