The name echidna refer to any member from three species of native ant-eating monotremes. Echidnas are unusual in that they are egg-laying mammals, they are equipped with spines (for protection) and have electro sensors in their bill. Baby echidnas are called puggles.

Sick Echidna...

We were driving along a dirt track in the National Park when we came across this fella huddled on the road. They are often seen crossing the road but this guy wasn't so much crossing as sitting on the road. It appeared he had a broken leg. After the obligatory snaps, we dragged him off the road and left him to (suffer in) peace. Poor bugger.
