Rose mallee "hats off"- (flower operculum falls revealing 'brush' of the red stamens) - Eucalyptus rhodantha in Kings Park
Eucalyptus rhodantha is a low-growing mallee, remarkable plant with magnificent flowers - deep rich crimson stamens tipped with golden anthers with a powdery-grey cup; silvery-blue, sessile leaves on spreading branches; the blossoms are around 50 mm across - a little like a smaller version of the E.macrocarpa (note E. macrocarpa has non-pedicellate (without stalk) flowers - the main difference from E. rhodantha) More photos of Eucalyptus rhodantha in my stream. j. Australian Wild Gum Blossom
Australian Wild Gum Blossom. “Gum Tree” is the most common name for the 500 kinds of Australian Eucalyptus. There are many common names and these usually arise from a common feature such as: type of timber, nature of bark, leaf aroma and habit of growth. The flowers have no petals, as they are formed into a cap which covers the stamens and falls off to allow the fluffy stamens to protrude.
