Wollahra NSW. Circular Quay NSW. Whilst I was doing a project for my work, I came across these fine looking historic photos. Permission granted from the collections of the State Library of NSW and Mitchell Library.
1892: The Strand Arcade officially opens and is described in The Sydney Mail - “The arcade is in fact one of the sights of Sydney and all strangers to Sydney make a point of going through it”.
The Rocks, Sydney
These photos were taken in the area now known as The Rocks. Many of the street names have since changed and some areas were demolished to build the Bradfield Highway (and the Sydney Harbour Bridge). The City of Sydney Council publishes a guide to old Sydney street names which is useful in identifying many of these locations.
