Sick of the negativity surrounding fly-in fly-out workers and their lifestyles, Rockingham artist Andy Quilty set out to provide an honest depiction of the workforce that keeps the mining industry moving and to prove that FIFO is not a dirty word.

My work FIFO #1 was awarded Best overall artwork at the recent City of Kalgoorlie Boulder Art Awards. The piece was also awarded the KCGM Mining Award for works with a mining theme. Many thanks to my  subject Phillip for agreeing to pose for the portrait.
