Where Do I Begin?
When faced with a writing project, I always have a tough time actually getting started. I realize that this is a very common problem among people who write. I also know that once I finally get started I end up having more to say than I thought I would. Starting this blog has been difficult. I have thought and thought about this first post. I have finally decided to just start and give a little background about where I am now in my development as a teacher rather than write a typical bio…

2017 Many thanks to the staff at Billy Kids - Lilyfield for allowing me a quick look around their newly completed playspaces. It's so gratifying to be able to design a playspaces and work with someone who allows it to be built as per my original vision. And it look like things really work out when they do. Another perfect job by Jamie Miller who built just about everything in the 3 separate playspaces you can see. 2015 The Green Elephant Early Learning Centre, Rosebery, Sydney New South…
Yard Project in 2005 -- img0673
Entry walk and entry gate I designed and built for a home in Arroyo Grande, California, in 2005. These rocks mostly came from beaches in southern Oregon. and these basically are their natural colors. But I wet them down before taking this picture to show the colors better and my digital camera added a bit too much saturation. So in real life these are the actual colors but just not so bright.
Fun with Logs
At first I was feeling guilty that this post is long overdue - we started the series back in May after all. But now I'm thinking it might be just the time to re-visit the idea of natural outdoor play spaces. With summer coming to an end, so too is the time for running through the sprinklers and planting vegetable gardens. The return of cool, crisp fall weather is actually quite perfect for a more rustic approach to outdoor play. So I thought I'd give you a peak at the last element of our…
Sunforest Mix Sunflower Seeds and Plants, Annual Flower Garden at Burpee.com
Plant a fast growing sunflower forest where your kids can frolic. Our blend of three tall and sturdy varieties becomes an enchanted natural playground. Their blooms are large (at least 1' across), and their stalks are tall (between 10-15'). Grow a big block in the backyard, leaving 3' or 4' wide pathways leading to the secret play area in the middle of the sun forest garden. Your children will have a summer full of memories to last a lifetime.
