Make Designed Objects : Alessi Bulla Bottle Opener. Drinking tool as jewellery. Valerio Sommella's Bulla bottle opener is a fluid and abstract object that doesn't immediately announce its purpose. The leather cord allows you to hang it in the kitchen. Add a longer cord to transform it into a functional necklace.

Aino Aalto's glasses have been so regularly (and poorly) copied that it's now difficult to understand their initial impact on glassware design. In 1932 Aalto won a design competition against all comers (including her husband, the architect Alvar Aalto) for Aalto Glasses. The functionalist design later also won a Gold Medal at the Milan Triennale. Aino glasses are simple, stackable and durable. Sold as a pair.

Echoing rings of water, this pressed Aino Aalto glassware from 1932 is tactile proof that essential design survives the test of time.

Every waiter's friend has a parrot inside it just waiting to get out. Alessandro Mendini found his inner parrot and was last seen sitting in a tree squawking about the spiraling cost of bird seed. Luckily he got it down on paper first. Incorporates corkscrew, bottle opener and foil cutter.

Richard Sapper's 9090 series of coffee makers is part of the permanent collection at New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). The clever design incorporates a click and release mechanism rather than the standard (clumsy) unscrewing of other espresso makers. The addition of a splitter allows you to make enough for six cups or three. Can be used on all cooking surfaces including induction hotplates.

Make Designed Objects : Power To Make Wine Rack - 9 Bottle Natural. This interlocking wine rack plays with repetition and the extendibility of a geometric pattern. And you can put your wine in it (bottles that is - the wine itself would just pour straight through onto the floor making a big puddle). Theoretically it's infinitely expandable though you may need to attach it to a wall if it gets too big.

Peter Holmblad tried repeatedly to convince Arne Jacobsen to design something new for Stelton. He only succeeded, however, once he showed some of his own drawing to his stepfather. Arne Jacobsen found these so hopeless that he began designing something else. The brief was to create a tea and coffee service, as well as bowls, an ice bucket and pitchers for the dining table and bar - all in stainless steel. Iittala's Kartio glassware is, like much of Kaj Franck's work, the result of stripping back superfluous detail to leave only the essential. "Kartio" is Finnish for "cone", the form which is the genesis of the range. In production since 1958 Kartio is extremely durable and a minimalist prototype for glassware in the second half of the twentieth century.
