The Rialto is a Venetian style building which opened in 1891. Originally a commercial building, it had space for 300 offices and 14 warehouses. The gothic towers, balconettes and arched windows were inspired by the palazzos of Venice. Early occupants were the Melbourne wool exchange and Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works

Melbourne and Hobsons Bay Railway Company Pier in 1870. Hobsons Bay Railway Pier, 1878 - My husband's Australian ancestry began here  .. His Gt Grandfather from France arrived in Williamstown and captained a ship from Hobsons Bay to Tasmania and South Australia.   Who knows .. he could possibly be in this photo  .. What a delightful thought   :0 )
