Howard, Torbanlea & surrounding areas
This is a photo of 34 James street showing Dennis Steley and Allison Jacobi's grandmother with one of her children in the early 1910's. The macadamia tree in the front was only small then (not the great monstrous tree that we knew (and collected the nuts from). It is not there now but I think a seedling from it is still there or was last time I was there. Photo courtesy of Dennis Steley.
Thomas Street, Howard. It belonged to Elias and Matilda Gambie. They moved there from "Olive Green Farm" where they lived at Gootchie for about 10 years with Matilda's brother James Hayden and his wife Jane. This would have been in the early 1880's when they moved to Howard. Photo courtesy of Dennis Steley.
