Emly Park, Ballan is a renowned property with a heritage stretching back to the beginnings of white settlement in the district. Irish pioneer John L Von Steiglitz arrived in Ballan in 1838 and David Vere Stead took up the Emly Park run soon after. David Stead, born in 1797, was a Quaker from Falmouth, who had arrived in the Port Phillip district in 1835.
