Favorite Pins Friday? Yep!

I don't even think there is a Favorite Pins Friday linky- but I have some favorites, so guess what?! I am going to talk about them - and it is Friday- so... Here we go! :) My first and FAVORITE pin is from Sarah (A Sunny Day in First Grade). I was the LUCKY winner of her Elmer the Elephant packet from her TPT store. I love introducing my class to Elmer each year, and this will make it SO much more fun. The activities she included in the packet are wonderful. Thank you SO much, Sarah! <3…

Take Time To Be Kind-- RAK 2013

Last year I didn't have a clue when RAK week was, not to mention that I was so swamped with starting a new position in January, that I didn't even try to make it work. However, I LOVE the idea of random acts of kindness week and I was determined to NOT let this week go by again uncelebrated. :) I introduced the week and what it meant on the news show on the last day of Nat'l School Counseling Week. Each morning of RAK week, our anchors have been reminding our students to do random acts of…

The Common core and YOU: Part deux!

Last week I posted some Common Core English Language Arts ideas. I've come back for more! :) When I get to unit 3, in a few short weeks {according to my district's pacing guide} I should start to teach my kiddos narrative writing. I wanted to see how ready they were so I started it a little bit. I've started to make some things to help them understand the sequence. I also use the who, what, when, where cards I posted about before {here}. We started talking about narrative stories because we…

Personal Narrative Writing Workshop Unit

This Personal Narrative Writing Workshop Unit has been SUCH a blast to implement! My sweet little writers were very productive in learning that their lives are FILLED with stories just waiting to come out on paper in personal narrative (small moment) writing. Having students not be stuck on "What do I write about?" has increased their volume of writing and drastically reduced their (and my!!!) frustration! In order to make it as easy as possible for you to teach, I've included teacher AND…

Small Pocket Chart Freebie

I love the ideas I've seen using the alphabet activity for sorting letters that are tall, small, and fall. This one is my favorite. I decided to print the poem and use it in one of my small (Target dollar spot) pocket charts on my reading focus board for the beginning of the year. Later, I can move it to a center and have children sort letters by their characteristics. I cut the poem into strips and matted them on black, blue, red, and green paper.
