sec Nikon Ah, the joys of panning.sooooo many attempts but I really like this one. She's reasonably in focus, the people and tents behind her indicate some kind of event, but they don't detract. Cropped for cleanliness and thirds.
sec Nikon Handheld, sunny day. I like the line created by the racers. B grade womens' race. they spread out further, the higher level the riders are. I like the colours and reflections in their glasses.
L3M2AP1 ISO200 38mm 1/800th sec f/5.6. Nikon D7100. Handheld on a sunny morning. Shot from the 'hip', dangling from my leg. I took several frames between the bars separating spectators from the racers lined up. I find the black and white draws attention to the lines and curves, rather than the colours distracting the eye.
sec Nikon A failed panning attempt - she's so close - but I really like the effect created. You can see the sport, there's some cool distortion, the dappled light and the glimpses through the trees. Sense of motion.
sec I'm glad I captured this moment.I have a series of them with her arms in different positions but this one has the cleanest background.
sec Nikon I was trying to do more portrait shots at this point and wanted to capture these riders waiting, when the current racers came around the corner. Adds to the ambience, and it's just luck that the one cyclist was looking right at me.
sec Nikon This is one of my favourite candids. She's clearly enjoying herself, you can see other skaters in the background, and those shadows work as leading lines. I wish that skater hadn't dumped his jumper there though.
L3M2AP1 ISO640 18.. f3.5 1/500th sec Nikon D7100 Proof I know how to increase ISO! Haha this is cropped in from a wider shot, I'd like to try again sometime but be closer and lower to capture the skater with less business behind. I did use the patch tool in Ps to remove some distracting branches from the top left though!
sec Nikon I'd been shooting a portrait and had the same settings so this isn't the best example of a frozen moment, but compositionally it it my favourite. I like that i got that 'decisive moment' but admit that my settings could have been better.
L3M2AP1 ISO250 50mm f/2.8 1/1000th sec Nikon D7100 I was originally trying for silhouettes but I used a radial filter to lighten her instead because of the interference of the sign. This preset has a nice 70s vibe which is perfect for her retro skates. I love the balance and concentration here. and the reflected light around her feet. Frozen moment.
L3M2AS1 ISO 250 50mm f/2.8 1/1000th sec NikonD7100 I know this is an odd crop but I like the way it looks like she's fighting to stay in frame. Also this photo for me portrays 'effort' - I saw her try this trick a few times, with varying degrees of success - and butt grazes! Black and white showed off contrasts and lines quite well.
