Banksia Integrifolia cone: Australian flower (well it WAS)
The banksia integrifolia flower after it has expired... revealing the gorgeous 'spine' of the flower which turns into this lovely banksia cone. I've been fascinated with these cones since i was a kid. i love the patterns of these "Big Bad Banksia Men". borrowed friends Nikon D70
The Waratah which is the name given it by the local Aborigines has the scientific name Telopea speciosissima. "Telopea" from the Greek means "seen from afar" and "speciosissima" from Latin means handsome. Both are appropriate names. It grows wild along the eastern seaboard of New South Wales, Australia in sandy well drained soil.
