He was the most capped Test cricket player in history with 168 Tests until Sachin Tendulkar broke this record in 2010. He played from 1985 to 2004 and was captain from 1999. He made 10,927 Test runs at 51.06, one of only 11 players to score over 10,000 Test runs. He was awarded the Order of Australia and included in a list of one hundred Australian Living Treasures by the National Trust of Australia.
