The mid-winter sun pushes through brooding rain clouds and highlights the old Serpentine River, now flooded by greed and insecurity. Lake Pedder is a sprawling body of water created, by an over-powerful hydro-electric commission, to feed into Lake Gordon. Rarely used for that purpose, its main achievement was in the formation of the world’s first green political party. An irony lost on progressives.
