On 24 August 2014, a pair of silk stockings was found in a shipwreck off the island of Texel. The ship, also known as BZN17 or the Palmhoutwrak, sunk between 1645 and 1670 and contained, in addition to the silk stockings, a silk dress and parts of other items of clothing. The pattern of the stockings was analysed in 2018 and volunteers from the Textile Research Centre, Leiden made several reconstructions.
