에밀리 플뢰게. 클림트는 젊은 나이에 14명의 사생아에 대해 고소를 당했을 만큼 여자 관계가 복잡한 남자였다. 하지만 에밀리 플뢰게에 대한 열정만큼은 남달랐다. 글자로 이루어진 것을 혐오하여 읽는 것, 쓰는 것을 싫어했던 클림트가 에밀리에게는 400여 통의 엽서를 보낼 만큼 그에게 에밀리는 특별한 사람이었다. 엽서의 내용에는 달콤한 사랑고백이 아닌 일상적인 이야기만 적혀있었지만 그 속에 담겨진 의미는 그와 에밀리 만이 알 것이다. 둘은 평생 독신으로 결혼하진 않았지만 클림트가 죽어가며 마지막으로 한 말은 ‘에밀리를 불러줘'였다고 한다.
