Robots Care for the Elderly in Japan - In Japan, a rapid increase in the elderly population is spurring an effort towards affordable robotic care. These robots would aid the elderly by performing daily tasks and lightening the load for caregivers.
Pepper is described as an “emotional robot” because it will eventually be able "read" human emotions by judging facial expressions and tone of voice, said Dr. Vincent Clerc, Director of the Advanced Robotics group and maker of the robot.
