"Hidden in the old elm tree shadows of Cole Neighborhood, the simple Gothic red jewel of a building sits like a quiet sentry marking the history of German, Slavic, Irish, and Hispanic immigrants who walk through the restored wood doors. Whenever I gaze upon the magnificent German stained glass, I think of when my children were baptized here in the presence of its rich history. I am thankful for Denver’s Annunciation Church and the over 125 years it has been part of Denver’s history."…

"I am thankful for the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel at Florida Southern College in Lakeland Florida. This building, as well as much of the campus, was designed by Frank Loyd Wright. I was 12 when I visited this with my parents and my sister who was considering going to school here. It was the first place I remember where, even as a young kid, I felt the power of architecture to lift your spirit and to inspire you with grace and beauty." #PreserveCO

Events like the National Western Stock Show not only remind us of our ranching heritage, but also of the importance of celebrating our connection to landscape and livestock in a communal, public way. SHF knows these are important traditions, which is why we have funded projects like the horse stalls (above) & other buildings at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. At Hands On Heritage, celebrate at the Café Rendezvous by enjoying food and beverage inspired by the Stock Show. #COEvent

Gable roof: your basic prism-shaped roof. It consists of two sloping sides that form a triangle on each end -- those are the actual "gables". For example, the gable here is covered with (adorable, super cool) purple ombre shingles. A house could have a front-gable roof, like this one, or a side-gable roof, meaning the sloping side is on front and the gables face the side.

Ranching has always played a major role in the landscape and industry of Colorado, to both early settlers and modern-day farmers. SHF has supported agricultural sites in Colorado by funding projects on farms and ranches, like the Beckwith Ranch above. Make your own mark on cattle ranching by designing your own cattle brand with the Colorado Cattle Women at the Hands On Heritage Festival. Round 'em up! #COEvent

"Section House, 1882, sits at 11,481 feet atop Boreas Pass. It’s owned by the U.S. Forest Service and operated by the Summit Hut Association. I was never so thankful to see a building as I was on January 1, 2011, when the six children and six adults in our group arrived safely after a 4.5 mile snowshoe trek. Wind chill was negative 40 degrees! Every inch of everyone was covered; water bottles, radios, and snacks froze. Who knew Boreas was the god of the north wind?" #PreserveCO
