15 in HMS Hood in the Mediterranean, 1937 - the Royal Navy's biggest and last battlecruiser was nearing completion at the time of Jutland in 1916, when 3 were lost. No more were laid down thereafter, and some additional protection was worked into her, but she was fatally vulnerable against the modern Bismarck in May 1941. Only 3 of her crew survived.

On 21/02/41 with HMS Kimberley & HMS Manchester she captured the German blockade runner SS Wahehe off Iceland. On 19/12/41 she was part of Force K, tasked to intercept an Italian convoy bound for Tripoli when she was irreparably damaged by a newly laid Italian mine whilst attempting to rescue the stricken HMS Neptune. She was scuttled the next day by HMS Jaguar.

Similar operations 04/41 in Persian gulf during Anglo-Iraqi war. Sunk by Jap Dive Bombers on 09/04/42 with loss of 307 men.
