Two Women in Day Dresses: Preparatory drawing for a fashion plate from Le Moniteur de la Mode Jules David (French, Date: October 1886 Medium: Watercolor Dimensions: Sheet: 14 x 10 in. x 27 cm) Classification: Drawings

Two-piece day dress, ca. 1875. Silk made from black warp and white weft, making dress shimmering silver. Tight-fitting, boned, long-waisted bodice called cuirass bodice. Nearly all stitching by machine, even binding around the 12 buttonholes. There was probably a white lace collar & cuffs. Little holes at base of neck suggest that owner wore a brooch to close bodice.
