Russian Sage, 4 x 3. With its tall wispy wands of lavender or blue flowers and silvery foliage, Russian sage is an important player in summer and fall gardens. It shows off well against most flowers and provides an elegant look to flower borders. The aromatic leaves are oblong, deeply cut along the edges. Foot-long panicles of flowers bloom for many weeks. Excellent drainage and full sun are ideal, although very light shade is tolerated.

Tall plants good for back of the flower bed - Russian sage, Perovskia atriplicifolia, feet tall, lavender or blue flowers and silvery foliage, aromatic leaves.

Accentuate Fall Color - One sure way to highlight the fall colors in your yard is to pair them with evergreens. Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii), Korean fire (Abies koreana 'Horstmann Silberlocke'), and dwarf blue spruce (Picea pungens 'Corbet'), for example, looks smashing against bold reds and oranges. And bright yellows practically sing next to a dark green background. BHG
